General Role of the Electronic Government Centre (Archive)
The Electronic Government Centre is responsible for creating the framework of conditions for the operation of the e-government, forming the main component of a service providing state, and for developing services for the electronic management of public administration tasks.
Within the framework of the general tasks of governmental information technology and the establishment of electronic government, the EGC is responsible for developing the Government’s electronic government service strategy and devising the organisation and co-ordination of implementing the strategy. It ensures consistency between the development and implementation of a single government electronic service policy and co-ordination of the Government decisions related to the establishment, implementation and spreading of electronic government for the purpose of making the activities of government agencies more transparent.
Electronic administration will be implemented based on the Central Electronic Service System (Central System), which includes the Electronic Government Backbone Network (EGB), the government portal, the government customer information centre, the services and administration options available there, the parties running and operating them, while making it possible for customers to establish an electronic customer gate.
The Electronic Government Backbone Network (EGB) forms the basic infrastructure of electronic government. The EGB is a broadband, high-speed network connecting the 18 county seats and Budapest, supporting data communication, Internet access and electronic mail between the central administration and regional institutions.
The Government Commissioner in charge of the Electronic Government Centre operated within the Prime Minister’s office co-ordinates the electronic government policy centrally. He acts as the Hungarian Chief Information Officer (CIO) in the field of Government information technology.
